Most recently, the new Gemini Legacy 35 was unveiled at The Annapolis Boat Show. Tropical Depression 9 is on Its' Way Folks!

HERE IT IS ON 08-21-2012

As a resident of "The Sunshine State," we are no strangers to frequent thunderstorms and sun showers. We also stick out like a sore thumb during Hurricane Season, which typically falls between June 1st and November 30th annually. In fact, hurricanes are so commonplace here that residents - like clockwork - will put up their shutters on their homes, purchase some extra food, water and power supplies, and that's ABOUT IT.  So, how then do we prepare our boats?

Here at The Catamaran Company, our clients take top priority. If your vessel is listed with us, we will send 4-5 days in advance our "Hurricane Procedures and Terms and Conditions" manual. In it, you will find all of the required information as far as what we need to ensure that your cat is secured during a severe storm.

You either have the option to prepare on your own, remove your vessel from our docks or we can prepare your vessel for you at a fairly reasonable rate. While it is standard for you to provide current insurance documentation when your boat is handed over to us, before the storm, you will also need to provide a $600, non-refundable fee. The following services will then be performed 72 hours prior to a named storm reaching South Florida:

  • Removal and re-installation of the bimini and foresail
  • Secure and tie-down the mainsail
  • Store cushions, BBQ and loose equipment inside one designated cabin in the vessel
  • Remove enclosures and store inside the vessel.
  • Secure all hatches, portholes, wind generators and tenders; outboard will be stored in one of the lockers
  • Secure the boat using additional lines (when necessary) using our best professional judgment, taking into consideration surroundings, boat orientation, dock, etc; if possible, lines will be run across the canal or anchors deployed
  • We will provide any required equipment not on board that is needed to prepare or secure the vessel for a storm

The Catamaran Company is by no means responsible for any damage that may occur as a result of a severe storm. Here at Lauderdale Marine Center, however, The Hermann Team would be happy to assist you. Whether your cat is at our docks or any other dock, upon inquiry, we will send you more information on how to prepare. Please feel free to email us for more information.

Caroline Laviolette, Yacht Sales, The Hermann Team

Caroline has cruised, raced and lived aboard sailboats ever since she learned how to walk. She started with the Catamaran Company in 2000 and has had the opportunity to work in almost every department, ultimately landing a position in sales.

Having joined the travel industry in her teens, Caroline has been to several of the world's best cruising grounds including Florida, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Great Lakes, South Pacific, Northern Europe, Mediterranean and Mexico. With a multicultural background, and having lived in most of these areas, she is in tune with the many unique cultural idiosyncrasies in order to best serve her client's special needs.

Scott Carr, Yacht Sales, The Hermann Team

Scott  learned the basics of sailing on an O’day Daysailor at 10 yrs. old while spending  summers  on  Raquette Lake, which is located  in the Adirondack Mountain region of New York State.  Throughout his life, he has always positioned himself close to the water so as to continue his pursuit of his passion for sailing.  From this early beginning, he quickly embraced the beauty and peacefulness of sailing, marveling at the sound of the water rushing past the hull, the sails filling with wind and the sounds of the wind whistling thru the rigging.

He lived in Southern California for 20 years and sailed out of Marina del Rey where he worked with   Calypso Yacht Charter Company.  While working there, he became dock manager for their fleet of  J-24’s, Islanders, Catalinas and Ericsons.  During his time there, he was able to continue sailing, learning all the time as he helped others to experience and understand the art of sailing.  He was also a member of The Marina Sailing Club where he had access to a variety of sailboats and participated in local races and events.

Scott Carr of The Hermann Team is prepared to work diligently on your behalf to locate the right make, the right model and the best value catamaran on the market today.

"Sea-Fever"

I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

- John Masefield (1878-1967)
