HERE IT IS ON 08-21-2012
As a resident of "The Sunshine State," we are no strangers to frequent thunderstorms and sun showers. We also stick out like a sore thumb during Hurricane Season, which typically falls between June 1st and November 30th annually. In fact, hurricanes are so commonplace here that residents - like clockwork - will put up their shutters on their homes, purchase some extra food, water and power supplies, and that's ABOUT IT. So, how then do we prepare our boats?
Here at The Catamaran Company, our clients take top priority. If your vessel is listed with us, we will send 4-5 days in advance our "Hurricane Procedures and Terms and Conditions" manual. In it, you will find all of the required information as far as what we need to ensure that your cat is secured during a severe storm.
You either have the option to prepare on your own, remove your vessel from our docks or we can prepare your vessel for you at a fairly reasonable rate. While it is standard for you to provide current insurance documentation when your boat is handed over to us, before the storm, you will also need to provide a $600, non-refundable fee. The following services will then be performed 72 hours prior to a named storm reaching South Florida:
- Removal and re-installation of the bimini and foresail
- Secure and tie-down the mainsail
- Store cushions, BBQ and loose equipment inside one designated cabin in the vessel
- Remove enclosures and store inside the vessel.
- Secure all hatches, portholes, wind generators and tenders; outboard will be stored in one of the lockers
- Secure the boat using additional lines (when necessary) using our best professional judgment, taking into consideration surroundings, boat orientation, dock, etc; if possible, lines will be run across the canal or anchors deployed
- We will provide any required equipment not on board that is needed to prepare or secure the vessel for a storm
The Catamaran Company is by no means responsible for any damage that may occur as a result of a severe storm. Here at Lauderdale Marine Center, however, The Hermann Team would be happy to assist you. Whether your cat is at our docks or any other dock, upon inquiry, we will send you more information on how to prepare. Please feel free to email us for more information.
